The Danube Bend is one of the most beautiful regions in Hungary and is located near Budapest. That is why this region is ideally suited for a day trip; you can already get a good impression of the region on a shorter, around six-hour excursion.
First we leave Budapest on the Buda side in a north-west direction along a particularly beautiful mountain road through the Visegrád mountains. Before we reach the town of Visegrád we drive to a lookout point directly on the banks of the Danube in the middle of the actual “knee” of the river. In Visegrad we drive to some particularly spectacular viewpoints and visit the upper fortress with the castle museum. Visegrád is not only worth seeing in terms of landscape, but – as a former royal seat – also historically significant.
Then it goes downriver along the Danube to the small baroque artist town of Szentendre, where you can enjoy the special atmosphere of the small old town after a small guided tour.
