My personal favorite excursions from Budapest are the excursions to Lake Balaton. There are two versions of it. On this excursion we initially drive a little along the shore of Lake Balaton, but we soon move away from the lake and first visit a small village whose name is world-famous because of the porcelain manufactory founded in 1826. The visit of the porcelain manufactory consists of the museum and the mini-manufactory, where you can see step by step how these masterpieces are created. But of course a cup of coffee from Herend porcelain cups shouldn’t be missing either.
From Herend we go to Lake Balaton, where we mainly spend the time in two places. The Tihany peninsula and the town with perhaps the most beautiful promenade, Balatonfüred. Since this region is also one of the famous wine regions of Hungary, there could be a glass or two of wine in the vineyards at the end of the day.
